  5. Alternately the patient can be 
  6. asked to look up and while 
  7. holding the lids, the fluorescein 
  8. strip is placed against the lower 
  9. conjunctiva.  Place the strip 
  10. sufficiently far from the limbus as 
  11. the strip will cause staining of the 
  12. conjunctiva (or cornea if you 
  13. accidentally touch the cornea).  
  14. You do not want to cover any 
  15. conjunctival staining with staining 
  16. from the fluorescein instillation.
